BS 7671:2018+A2 (Amendment 2)
Status
Amendment 2 to BS 7671:2018 is in force. Published on 28 March 2022, it introduced arc fault detection devices in AC final circuits for higher-risk buildings, a new chapter on prosumer low-voltage installations, wider requirements for protection against transient overvoltages, and revised labels and notices. It also absorbed Amendment 1:2020, which is where the Section 722 EV charging requirements came from.
What Changed
Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDDs)
Amendment 2 introduced a requirement for AFDDs in AC final circuits supplying socket-outlets in certain higher-risk premises. It also added the prosumer chapter, covering installations that both consume and export electrical energy.
Protection Against Voltage Disturbances
Updated requirements for protection against voltage disturbances, including provisions for overvoltage and undervoltage conditions. The changes addressed practical issues encountered in installations with sensitive equipment.
EMF Requirements
The amendment included requirements related to electromagnetic fields (EMF) in electrical installations, aligning with EU directives on worker exposure to electromagnetic fields.
